Talpa & Zhejiang Tangde Forge Joint Production Venture; Avanti & Sky Vision Ink 2-Year Development Deal – Global Briefs

Expanding their relationship, John de Mol’s Talpa, now owned by ITV, has entered a joint venture with Middle Kingdom media company Zhejiang Tangde. The two will jointly develop and operate over 200 variety shows of which Talpa owns the copyright. The first production to be aired in China under the new deal will be Dance Dance Dance, a celebrity competition with state-of-the-art augmented reality. As part of the deal, Zhejiang Tangde, in a $60M deal, has also licenced the rights to produce and broadcast Seasons 5-8 of The Voice Of China which is a big draw locally. Zhejiang is further committing $50M to the JV to be used for the development of local formats.

Avanti Media and Sky Vision, Sky’s distribution arm, have inked an exclusive two-year development deal that will see Sky Vision invest in Avanti’s development and represent Avanti programing and formats internationally. The first product of the deal will be the launch of two new primetime documentaries produced by Avanti for Channel 4. The first is Frozen Christmas, which examines the pastime of extreme ice sculpting; the second is Beijing Billionaires, a look a the lives of China’s super rich. Beijing Billionaires will air during primetime in February.
