Manolo Blahnik Documentary Afoot With Content Media Handling World Rights – EFM

Master shoe designer Manolo Blahnik is to be the subject of a documentary feature directed by Michael Roberts. Manolo (The Boy Who Made Shoes For Lizards) is produced by Nevision Studios One Limited. The in-depth portrait will take a behind-the-scenes look into the world of the fashion icon. Content Media has worldwide sales and will introduce the doc to buyers at the EFM next month.

manoloBlahnik was born in the Canary Islands to a Spanish mother and a Czech father; he studied languages and art in Geneva before moving to Paris in 1965 where he went into set design. By 1971, he was in London making shoes, and in 1973, opened his first shop in Chelsea. He entered the pop culture vernacular thanks to Sex And The City whose Carrie Bradshaw swore by his designs.

The film will feature a roster of some of figures from the fashion and entertainment worlds including Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, Paloma Picasso, Candace Bushnell, Charlotte Olympia, Iman, Rihanna, Naomi Campbell, David Bailey and Isaac Mizrahi.

Executive Producers are James Cabourne, Tiggy Maconochie and Anne Morrison. Production is currently underway.

Roberts, who wears many hats, won the MTV best breakthrough video award for Bryan Ferry’s “Limbo.” He has worked for London’s Sunday Times, Tatler, British Vogue and Vanity Fair. He was also the New Yorker’s first fashion director from 1997 to 2006 and has been style editor-at-large for Vanity Fair since 2010.
