Elisabeth Moss Says ‘Top Of The Lake’ Season 2 Filming This Spring – Sundance

EXCLUSIVE: Long rumored to be finally happening, a second season of Top Of The Lake is set to start filming in March, star Elisabeth Moss confirmed for me at the Sundance Film Festival. “I’ve read three scripts so far and I’m incredibly excited where Jane is taking the story and the character,” the Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee said in Park City this week.

Like the 2013 first season of the acclaimed Jane Campion and Gerald Lee-created drama, Moss will be back as Detective Robin Griffin. The Mad Men alum won a Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV at the HFPA shindig in 2014.

First announced at MIPCOM back in October 2014, TOTL S2 will air on this side of the Atlantic on SundanceTV and Hulu later this year and on BBC2 in the UK. With cameras set to roll in Sydney, Australia in the upcoming weeks, TOTL S2 will once again be directed and co-written by Oscar winner Campion. See-Saw Films’ Emile Sherman and Iain Canning are producing.

Moss was at Sundance 2016 for the world premiere of The Free World, which debuted at the Eccles Theatre yesterday. Drawing comparisons to Netflix’s docu-series Making A Murderer, the Jason Lew written and directed film about a recently exonerated and released man trying to find his way in the world after 20-years behind bars co-stars Moss, Boyd Holbrook, Octavia Spencer and Sung Kang. In competition in the U.S. Dramatic category, The Free World has four more screenings at Sundance this week.

Having recently shot The Seagull with Annette Bening and Brooklyn Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan plus The Bleeder with Liev Schreiber, Moss is heading straight into Made To Be Normal with David Tennant and Michael Gambon next. The film chronicles the life and work of controversial psychiatrist R.D. Laing, with the Marvel’s’ Jessica Jones star as the lead.
