CBS has given a pilot order to The Kicker, a multi-camera project from the 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt trio of Tina Fey, Jack Burditt and Robert Carlock. The project, from Universal TV and Fey’s studio-based Little Stranger, had a big pilot production commitment.
Written by Burditt, The Kicker centers on an oddball athlete who drives family, friends and strangers insane after he unexpectedly finds himself cut from his professional football team. Burditt, Fey and Carlock executive produce with 3 Arts’ David Miner.
This makes it 2-for-2 for Fey’s Little Stranger production company whose single-camera comedy written by another 30 Rock alum, Tracey Wigfield, also has a pilot order at NBC. Fey also executive produces it with Carlock and Miner.
Burditt served as an executive producer alongside Fey and Carlock on both 30 Rock, created by Fey, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, created by Fey and Carlock. This marks a return to multi-camera comedy for Burditt who started off on Mad About You and Frasier and created ABC’s Last Man Standing.
This marks the fourth CBS comedy pilot this season and fifth comedy greenlight overall, including the Kevin James series, and the first that CBS does not solely produce or co-produce. All five pickups have been multi-camera or hybrid.
