Netflix’s ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ Finds Its Violet & Klaus

After a wide search and an open casting call for the two young leads of Violet and Klaus, Malina Weissman (Supergirl) has been cast as Violet in Netflix’s series adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Newcomer Louis Hynes will play Klaus.

Neil Patrick Harris has been in negotiations for the adult lead of Count Olaf in the Paramount TV-produced project, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.

Narrated by Snicket, A Series Of Unfortunate Events recounts the tale of the orphaned children Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire at the hseries-unfortunate-events-netflixands of the villainous Count Olaf, as they face trials and tribulations, misfortunes and an evil uncle in search of their fortune, all in their quest to uncover the secret of their parents’ deaths. Violet, the self-confident, capable and smart-beyond-her-years eldest sibling, helps her brother and sister solve problems with her skills as an inventor. Klaus is the middle child who loves books.

In the 2004 movie, Violet and Klaus were played by Emily Browning and Liam Aiken, while Jim Carrey played Count Olaf.

Filming on the Netflix series is eyed to begin in March in Vancouver.

Weissman recurs as young Kara (Melissa Benoist) in CBS’ freshman drama series Supergirl. Her screen acting debut was playing young April (Megan Fox) in the 2014 feature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The actress, who will be seen in Nine Lives opposite Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Garner and Christopher Walken, is repped by Principato Young, Paradigm and attorney Fred Toczek.
