Family feature animation Norm Of The North has been set for an April debut in China. Under a deal between producer Splash Entertainment and Shanghai-based Yang Yang Pictures Corp, the latter will serve as a major investor for the release, which will be handled by Chinawood Media Corp on the mainland as well as in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The story of a fun-loving polar bear and his three ragtag lemming pals in their bid to save their Arctic home had its domestic bow via Lionsgate on January 15 and has grossed $14.1M to date. Good Universe previously sold the film to more than 70 territories worldwide. This is Splash’s first feature and Yang Yang says it’s looking at a long-term relationshp between the two.
Anil D. Ambani’s Reliance Entertainment has set Indo-French production nOmber One from helmer Serge Hazanavicius. Reliance will team with Julie Gayet’s Rouge International and Elisa Soussan’s myFamily to produce the skiing drama. Hot young star Kev Adams (Les Profs, The New Adventures Of Aladdin) leads the story of a quest, and of the ascension of a uniquely talented young man in a world gone mad. Hazanavicius, the brother of Artist helmer Michel, is a longtime actor (The Monuments Men, I’ve Loved You So Long) and is making his feature helming debut with nOmber One. He co-wrote the script with Stephane Dan, Mary-Noelle Dana, and Alexis Galmot. Principal photography is expected to start in February in France and later move to the Himalayas. Reliance is a major investor in DreamWorks and recently teamed with the studio, Steven Spielberg, Participant Media and eOne to form Amblin Partners.
