WME Signs Actress-Writer Lena Waithe

The multi-hyphenate Lena Waithe has signed with WME.

As an actress, Waithe co-stars opposite Aziz Ansari as his best friend, Denise, on Ansari’s Netflix comedy series Master Of None.

As a writer, Waithe created and wrote the untitled Chicago drama pilot (aka Chiraq) which offers a poignant and relevant coming-of-age story of a young African-American male in which just growing up can be a matter of life and death. The pilot is in contention for a series order.

Additionally, Waithe wrote the half-hour project Twenties, which is set up at Hulu where it recently received an order for a back-up script. She also is currently writing a chapter with Jenni Konner for Lena Dunham’s next book.

Previously, Waithe wrote for the long-running Fox Bones and produced Justin Simien’s Dear White People, which won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. She continues to be repped by Andrew Coles and attorney Gordon Bobb.
