The Witch Trailer: Colonial New England Terrorized By Cold, Rain & Demons

Travel with us back to the days before modern medicine and psychotherapy, when life was nasty, brutish and short and supernatural threats loomed over good folk everywhere. That’s the world of A24’s upcoming The Witch, a supernatural horror film set in the New England wilderness of 1630. When an English farmer is threatened with banishment from his colonial plantation by the church, he relocates his family to a remote plot of land at the edge of a forest. Strange and terrifying things begin to happen as animals attack, crops fail, one child disappears and another is seemingly possessed by a demon. As things get worse, the family accuses their teenage daughter of witchcraft and familial bonds, faith and loyalty are tested. Interested? Catch the new trailer here.

The debut feature from writer/director Robert Eggers, The Witch won the Best Director Prize in the U.S. Narrative Competition when it premiered at Sundance 2015. Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger, and Lucas Dawson star. It’s due in theaters nationwide on February 19.
