‘MasterChef Junior’ Ratings Give Fox Demo Win, ‘Blue Bloods’ Hits Season High

Well, something was really cookin’ last night over on the Gordon Ramsay hosted kids culinary show. In an almost full night of originals on the Big 4 and the CW, a double serving of MasterChef Junior not only hit Season 4 highs for the series but also topped the night among the 18-49s and delivered a rare Friday victory to Fox.

Up 37% from its last original of December 18, the 8 PM MasterChef Junior drew a 1.5/5 rating. That’s the best the show has done this season and beats its November 6 debut by 15% in the key demo. A 9 PM MasterChef Junior last night took home a 1.4/5 rating – which also won its time slot and matched the Fox show with the 10 PM Season 6 winter return of Blue Bloods for the second highest rated show of the night.

With 10.75 million viewers, the CBS cop family drama was the most watched show of the night, as usual. Up 27% from its last original of December 11, Blue Bloods also hit a key demo season high with what is in fact its best result in the 18-49 since March 13 last year. Compared to its Season 5 winter return of January 2 last year, last night’s Blue Bloods was even. Hawaii Five-O (1.3/5) also hit a season high last night and the 8 PM Undercover Boss (1.2/4) dropped 25% from its last original of January 3, a Sunday.

Comparisons to previous winter returns, as one tends to do around this time of year for most shows, are not really on the menu for MasterChef Junior as Season 3 of the show actually debuted on January 6, 2015. That 8 PM show got a 1.8/6 on a crowded Tuesday against NCIS and the premiere of Marvel’s Agent Carter on ABC. Overall Fox scored a rare Friday victory in the demo with a 1.4/5 while 18-49 runner up CBS (1.3/5) took the viewership top spot with 8.99 million.

Otherwise the rest of the night saw ABC comedies Last Man Standing (1.3/5) and Dr. Ken (1.1/4) even with their last originals and Shark Tank (1.3/4) up 8% from its last original outing on January 5, a Tuesday, but below its Friday average. Ending the night for ABC, 20/20 (0.9/3) was down 18% from last week. Over on the CW, the 8 PM Reign (0.3/1) was back even with its last new show. NBC’s live Undateable (0.8/3) was back up 14% in the demo from its last original of December and hit a season viewership high with an audience of 3.2 million. NBC’s other new show of the night was Dateline (1.2/4), which was up 20% over its New Year’s Day show.
