‘Titans’ DC Comics Drama Dead At TNT – TCA

TNT has opted not to proceed with Teen Titans live-action drama Titans, which had been ordered to pilot by the previous network regime. “We decided it wasn’t where we wanted to go,” TNT president Kevin Reilly said at TCA.

Reilly initially left Titans in development after he took over TNT and TBS and held conversations with the project’s co-creator, Akiva Goldsman. “I think it’s going to end up being a very, very interesting offering,” Reilly told our sister publication TV Line in May. “I think it’s going to be excellent.”

Written by Oscar winner Goldsman and executive-turned-scribe Marc HaimesTitans was to revolve around the eponymous group of young superheroes-to-be from the DC Universe. The action series was centered on Dick Grayson — better known for his alter ego as Robin — who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new superheroes including Starfire, Raven and many others. Goldsman executive produced, with Haimes serving as co-executive producer for Warner Horizon.

Titans was part of TNT’s previous strategy for popcorn, four-quadrant entertainment. The network is now moving into darker territory with edgier fare.
