All3Media Acquires ‘The Missing’ & ‘Indian Summers’ Producer New Pictures

Discovery and Liberty Global’s superindie, All3Media, is diving deeper into drama with the acquisition of UK-based New Pictures. The company makes such series as BBC One/Starz’ The Missing and Channel4/Masterpiece’s Indian Summers. Second seasons of each are currently in production. Two new dramas, crime series Rellik and psychological thriller Requiem, have been ordered by BBC One for production in 2016/17.

charlie pattinsonNew Pictures was formed by former Company Pictures chief Charlie Pattinson in 2013, along with Elaine Pyke, Willow Grylls and Richard Nelson. Their combined credits include dramas for all major UK broadcasters as well as HBO, Cinemax, CBS, MTV and Showtime.

The deal is believed to be worth around £40M. UK trade Broadcast reported that All3Media beat out competition from the likes of ITV, Sony Pictures Television and Lionsgate to secure the producer.

Discovery and Liberty Global bought All3Media in 2014. All3 then acquired Penny Dreadful maker Neal Street Productions last year and in September, invested in Anand Tucker and Sharon Maguire’s Seven Stories, signaling its increased ambitions in the drama space.
