‘Star Wars’ Makes Jump To $589.7M Offshore; $1.16B Worldwide Box Office

Coming off of a weekend that saw it cross the $1B global mark in hyper-drive, and with a stellar domestic Monday, Star Wars: The Force Awakens added $39.4M at the overseas box office yesterday. That brings the international cume to just shy of $600M, at $589.7M. Worldwide, the total is now $1.161B.

In terms of global standing, Star Wars is now the No. 4 film of 2015 and the No. 10 movie of all time, blasting past Minions‘ $1.157B.

Internationally, the Resistance and the First Order are storming up the charts, now at No. 6 for the year. Several markets are blasting away in force, especially the UK where the cume is now $107.4M after a week that included a full day of cinemas being closed. For the record, Spectre, this year’s top-grossing movie in Britain, was at $143.8M through Sunday. Germany is also pulling its weight, lifting the local total to $60.8M, and France has now grossed $51.4M.

By the end of today, $600M will be an afterthought internationally as the Disney/Lucasfilm sequel is set for continued strength throughout New Year’s week. And, of course, this is all in advance of China on January 9.
