Jeremy Piven’s ‘Mr Selfridge’ Says Hello, Dolly Sisters, In Clip From Final Season

The 4th and final season of ITV period drama Mr Selfridge kicks off on January 8 in the UK with Jeremy Piven reprising his role as London department store magnate Harry Selfridge for the last time. The series began strongly back in 2013, averaging 8M viewers, but has seen increasing declines over the last two years despite generally positive reviews. This season kicks off nine years after the explosive events of the S3 finale in which Selfridge survived a no confidence vote, but ended the 1919 episode surrounded by his worst vices: gambling, alcohol and women.

Season 4 moves ahead to 1928, with Selfridge at the pinnacle of his power and public celebrity. A man-about-town who often gambles glamorously abroad, rumors of his latest fling light up the social circuit at Victor Colleano’s new nightspot, which is bigger and more decadent than ever.

In the clip from episode 1 above, Selfridge chats with Mae (Katherine Kelly), newly-returned from Paris, and meets impresario Jimmy Dillon (Sacha Dhawan). He’s also greeted by stage sirens the Dolly sisters (Emma Hamilton, Zoe Richards). In real life, Selfridge became besotted with the Dollys, groundbreaking performers of their era who were contributors to his fall from grace.

Tom Goodman-Hill, Ron Cook, Amanda Abbington, Amy Beth Hayes, Trystan Gravelle, Sacha Parkinson and Samuel West are among the returning cast. The series runs for 10 episodes. PBS has yet to set an airdate in the U.S.
