UPDATED throughout: Steve Harvey has gotten an invitation to return as the host of the Miss Universe pageant next year, despite Sunday’s snafu in which he announced the wrong winner.

In an interview today on Jim Rome’s CBS Sports Radio show, Mark Shapiro, Chief Content Officer at WME|IMG, said the Family Feud host was “very remorseful” about the error and that Harvey was “absolutely” welcome back to host the 2016 pageant. Shapiro said Harvey “did a great job. He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following. … I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back. He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself.”

The Belize Tourism Board also is doing its part to keep Harvey in the pageant-hosting biz.

The board said it was impressed with the way Harvey handled himself after the snafu and disagreed with some of the speculation that the incident could put the kibosh on his future hosting opportunities. Beauty pageants, especially the Costa Maya Festival, apparently are very popular in Belize, and the board felt Harvey would be a great host after watching Sunday’s show. Thoughts?
