Deadline’s The Contenders – Michael Moore On Why He Stormed Europe To Make ‘Where To Invade Next’

Michael Moore was the last to appear at Deadline’s big awards season event, The Contenders Presented By Deadline, on November 7th to talk about his latest documentary, Where To Invade Nextin front of the AMPAS and key guild members attending the all-day Oscar primer at the DGA Theatre. So it is appropriate that our conversation that day is also the contenders-sold-outlast of the 35+ Contenders videos that I am posting this season.

Moore describes his movie in which he “invades” several European countries in order to steal back some good original American ideas, and also talks about how he kept the making of the film a state secret that not even the CIA knew about. It is definitely Moore with a lighter touch, but it undoubtedly will hit a nerve. It has already been shortlisted by the Academy’s Documentary list as one of 15 finalists for an Oscar nomination and will be released on February 12 through the new distribution company formed by Tom Quinn, Jason Janego and Tim League.

Oscar ballots went out today, so good luck to all the “contenders” who appeared at our event in which 19 studios and distributors showed off their wares. To watch my conversation with Michael Moore just click on the video link above. And to see any of the previous videos of our contender presentations just go to the right rail of Deadline’s home page to the CONTENDERS box.
