‘Crimson Rivers’ Crime Series Flowing With EuropaCorp TV, Maze Pictures

German producers Philipp Kreuzer and Jörg Schulze are launching maze pictures, a film and TV shingle designed to develop, finance, produce and co-produce high-end content for the local and international markets. Among the first projects for the Munich- and Berlin-based outfit is the adaptation of The Crimson Rivers as an international hour-long series in partnership with Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp Television. The crime drama will be based on the best-selling novel by Jean-Christophe Grangé. Mathieu Kassovitz previously turned it into a successful feature at Gaumont in 2000, ushering in a new French wave of American-style genre pics.

Set in the world of the macabre, the thriller follows two detectives investigating a series of grisly murders. Kreuzer, formerly of Bavaria Film Group, says the project “perfectly reflects our strategy and the type of content we aim for with our… slate.”

Also on the slate are Rupert Everett’s directorial debut The Happy Prince with BBC Films, Lionsgate UK, Beta Cinema and Concorde Film. Colin Firth was attached in 2012 to the untold story of the last days of Oscar Wilde. Also in development is international series Heirs Of The Night with NDR/KIKA, ZDF Enterprises and Hamster Film.

Schulze’s credits include Philip Gröning’s documentary Into Great Silence and Baran Bo Odar’s first film The Silence. Kreuzer’s producer/exec producer credits include features Last Love starring Michael Caine and Gillian Anderson and Death Of A Superhero with Andy Serkis. TV credits include international Emmy-winning mini The Manns.
