Among non-musicals, the James Earl Jones-Cicely Tyson revival of The Gin Game sparked to life with a gain of $138.4K to $357K, still just 52 percent of potential at the Shuberts’ Golden. David Mamet’s China Doll, starring Al Pacino, fell $187K due to a dropped performance at the Shuberts’ Schoenfeld to $923K, still close to 100 percent of potential and boasting an average price per ticket of $154.05. The previewing Fiddler On The Roof revival, at the Shuberts’ Broadway Theatre, was off while remaining in the $1 million-plus club, indicating good word-of-mouth. The show opens December 20.
The top-grossing show was Disney’s The Lion King, at the Nederlanders’ Minskoff: $2 million, up $25K from the week before with an average ticket price of $150.04. The Book Of Mormon, at Jujamcyn’s Eugene O’Neill, took in$1.6 million and had the highest average ticket price at $182.95.
Week 29 of the 2015-16 season was up less than 1 percent over the week before, according to figures released by the trade Group Broadway League, totaling $29.9 million for 37 shows. Total gross was off by about $219K from the same week last year, when 36 shows were running.
