Two Dead In Helicopter Crash En Route To MTV Location Shoot In Argentina

A helicopter working on MTV’s reality show The Challenge crashed today in Argentina, killing the pilot and a technician, ABC News reported. The copter crashed while flying over the reservoir at Potrerillos de Mendoza dam about 620 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, according to local news reports.

MTV said the Bell 206 helicopter was headed for a shooting location for The Challenge, an MTV/Bunim-Murray co-production when it went down. Only the two people were aboard and neither was a cast or crew member. The wreckage was some 200 feet underwater and searchers could not retrieve the bodies, local news agency Telam said.

A police representative told El Sol the MTV helicopter was not authorized to travel over the dam. The cause of the accident was under investigation.

It was Argentina’s second deadly helicopter accident this year that involved a reality show. In March, a pair of helicopters working on the French survivalist show Dropped collided over rugged terrain in northwestern Argentina, killing all 10 people aboard.

In August, two men were injured in Texas when their helicopter crashed while working on a Discovery reality show.

And in another accident involving a reality TV show three men died in a helicopter crash two years and 10 months ago near Acton, CA during filming of an untitled military show for Discovery Network.
