Cate Blanchett Circling ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Role

Cate Blanchett may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she’s in talks with Marvel to appear in Thor: Ragnarok in an unspecified role. If she takes the role it will be her first time in the superhero film genre, though she’s an old hand in geek cinema, having played Galadriel in the Peter Jackson-directed Middle Earth saga films since 2001’s Lord Of The Rings.

The third Thor film, Ragnarok sees Chris Hemsworth once again wielding Mjolnir as the title character, and Tom Hiddleston returning to play villain as Loki. They’re joined this time out by Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, his first time in a Marvel film outside of the Avengers films aside from a cameo at the end of Iron Man 3. The film is being directed by Taika Waiti, and is currently slated for release November 3, 2017. No story or plot details have been made public. Stephany Folsom is penning the script.

Blanchett is looking good going into awards season, and has already received SAG and Golden Globe nominations for her work in Todd Haynes’ Carol.

Variety first reported the story.
