Stephnie Weir & Greg Garcia Adapting British Comedy ‘The Job Lot’ For ABC With Weir Starring

In a competitive situation, ABC has landed a single-camera comedy written and executive produced by writer-actress Stephnie Weir Stephnie 1Weir and Raising Hope creator Greg Garcia. Tentatively titled The Job Squad, the project is based on the British comedy The Job Lot. It is set at an unemployment office in Burlington, VT, with Weir starring as Trish, the office manager who heads up a staff of colorful characters doing their best to turn Un-Employment into Fun-Employment. The role was played by Sarah Hadland in the British series. Weir and Garcia executive produce alongside Kenton Allen and Matthew Justice, the producers of the original series. The Job Squad, which has received a script commitment with penalty, comes from CBS TV Studios, Garcia’s studio-based Amigos de Garcia and original series’ producer Big Talk Productions.

The UK series, debuted on ITV in 2013, migrating after the first season to ITV2 where the show just aired its third season.  Here is a trailer:

greggarciaThis is Weir and Garcia’s second project together this season. They also have Y’all In The Family, a half-hour multi-camera comedy at CBS through CBS Studios and Amigos de Garcia. Written/executive produced by Texas-borm Weir and executive produced by Garcia, is set in Texas and centers on a conservative, small-town family forced to reconcile their family values when they discover their children’s lives are less than perfect.

Additionally, Amigos de Garcia also has How To Speak American, written/executive produced by Bobby Bowman, a hybrid comedamigosgarciay about a coddled millennial who teaches ESL to a variety of immigrants who, in turn, teach him about grit, courage and hustle. It also is set at CBS.

As a writer, Weir recently served as a consulting producer on Garcia’s most recent series, CBS’ abclogoThe Millers. In front of the camera, the MadTV alumna co-starred on FX’s The Comedians and is recurring on two freshman comedies, the CW/CBS Studios’ Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and CBS/20th TV’s Life In Pieces. Repped by UTA, Meghan Schumacher Management and Myman Greenspan, she also appears in the upcoming New Line feature Fist Fight. Garcia is with CAA.
