DreamWorks Animation Inks Strategic Content Pact With DHX Media

On a newsworthy day for DreamWorks Animation, the company has inked a strategic content pact with DHX Media, a key international player in family-oriented content. As part of the five year agreement, DWA and DHX will co-produce 130 episodes of original animated children’s content at DHX Studios. Content will air on DHX Television’s suite of channels, which includes Family Channel, Family Jr., Family CHRGD and Télémagino. DHX will handle distribution for the content in Canada and DWA will distribute to the rest of the world.

In addition, DHX has licensed more than 1,000 half-hours of programming from DWA to be broadcast across DHX’s channels starting next June. DHX will now become the exclusive television network for that DWA TV content in Canada. Series include All Hail King Julien, The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show, Dragons: Race To The Edge, The Croods and others.

DHX Media has also inked a deal with AwesomenessTV, majority owned by DWA, to license 300 half-hours of teen content for exclusive broadcast in Canada on Family Channel. AwesomenessTV is a multi-platform media company producing content for the Gen Z audience. The series include F2N, which launches in January 2016, anchored by DHX’s Degrassi: Next Class. DHX will also handle distribution for the AwesomenessTV content in Canada, including SVOD and OTT.
