With two nominations from SAG including Outstanding Cast, three nominations from the Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture Drama, as well Best Picture wins from the Boston, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Film Critics, Spotlight is off to a great start this awards season. And it certainly is living up to the word “contender,” which we called it early last month at the DGA Theatre when it was part of our big awards-season event, The Contenders Presented By Deadline, a sold-out all-day look for AMPAS and key guild members at each studio’s major Oscar hopefuls. The story of the dogged investigative reporting by a team of Boston Globe journalists who uncover a scandal involving priests in the local Archdiosese has been compared to 1976’s All The President’s Men, which won four Oscars. Could Spotlight have the same level of success? I spoke with co-writer/director Tom McCarthy, co-writer and executive producer Josh Singer and producers Nicole Rocklin and Steve Golin to get the inside scoop on this compelling film.
