Michael Cera, Abbi Jacobson & Tavi Gevinson Join ‘Human People’; ‘Big Bear’ Wraps With Pablo Schrieber & Adam Brody

Michael Cera, Tavi Gevinson, and Abbi Jacobson have signed on to topline Human People, the latest from Bad Fever director Dustin Guy Defa which has just begin production. The ensemble piece follows a variety of New York characters navigating unexpected problems and their relationships during the course of a single day. Alongside Cera, Gevinson and Jacobson the film also features Isiah Whitlock, Michaela Watkins, Ben Rosenfield, Buddy Durress, George Sample III, Bene Coopersmith, and Philip Baker Hall.

Cera and Gevinson previously recently worked together in a Broadway production of Kenneth Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth. Jacobson, along with Ilana Glazer the co-creator, co-writer and co-star of Comedy Central’s Broad City, will next be seen in the Universal feature film Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Primarily known for his short films, Defa’s previous feature Bad City premiered at SXSW 2011. Human People is produced by Sara Murphy, Toby Halbrooks, and James M. Johnston, co-produced by Allison Rose Carter and Jon Read, and Exec Produced by Joe Swanberg, Eddie Linker and Peter Gilbert of Forager Films and Matthew Perniciaro and Michael Sherman of Bow and Arrow Entertainment, in association with Sailor Bear and Park Pictures. UTA helped arrange financing and will rep the film along with Gray Krauss Stratford Sandler Des Rochers LLP.

The comedy Big Bear has wrapped and the film’s principle cast has been announced. Written and directed by Joey Kern in his feature debut, Big Bear is a black comedy following a soon-to-be-married man dumped by his fiancee who reluctantly goes ahead with his bachelor party anyway. Heading up to Big Bear mountain with three friends, things take a turn for the worse when he discovers his friends have kidnapped the man his fiancee left him for and have tied him up in a basement.

Big Bear stars Kern, along with Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is The New Black), Adam Brody (The O.C.), Tyler Labine (Monsters University), and Zachary Knighton (Happy Endings). Maybe This Year (MTY) Productions’ Brandon Evans produced along with Brett Forbes and Patrick Rizzotti of Fortress Features, Joey Kern, and Luke Edwards. Currently in post-production, it was financed by Maybe This Year along with the company’s financial partners.
