Mark & Jay Duplass Explain It All For You – In Book Form

Jay and Mark Duplass — whose fiefdom as writers, directors, actors and producers includes HBO’s Togetherness and Amazon’s Transparent — have closed a deal with Ballantine Books to publish an untitled essay collection in 2017. The busy sibs (whose second season of Togetherness is set to premiere in February and whose Animals animated series HBO will bring out next year) earlier signed a 4-picture deal with Netflix. Ballantine is part of the Bertelsmann/Random House publishing giant.

The essay collection is described as “a highly personal exploration of the messiness and awkwardness of life – complete with sincere anecdotes, goofy moments, and — uh oh — ‘funcomfortable’ episodes that chart their journey of collaboration, which began when they were kids with a movie camera in New Orleans. As in their film and television projects, the brothers will wrestle with what it means to be a good friend, husband, father and brother, and what it’s like to collaborate so intimately with a sibling you love but sometimes want to murder. Ballantine exec editor Pamela Cannon acquired world rights from ICM Partners. Mark and Jay are both repped by ICM Partners and Sloane Offer.
