Deadline’s The Contenders: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Talks Unique Balancing Act Of Making ‘The Walk’

The secrets behind Robert Zemeckis’ extraordinary film version of Phillipe Petit’s daring 1974 walk on a wire between the brand new Twin Towers of the World Trade Center came to life for a packed audience of AMPAS and key guild members last month at The Contenders Presented By Deadline. Star Joseph Gordon-Levitt told a packed DGA Theater that it was the vision of Zemeckis that really made this a film in which he wanted to participate. He also talked about his knack for speaking fluent French, but says he had no idea he would be using it for a big Hollywood movie.

Joining him in our conversation was Special Effects producer Camille Cellucci, who talked about the unique challenges she and her team faced in recreating the Twin Towers. The film is considered one of the top prospects for a Visual Effects Oscar nomination this year.
