‘The Little Prince’ Trailer: New Spin On Classic Tale With Big Names

Jeff Lebowski notwithstanding, here’s the role that Jeff Bridges was born to voice. He’s the Aviator in The Little Prince, Paramount’s adaptation of the classic French story. As per usual with Tinseltown toons these days, there’s a tremendous voice cast; joining Le Dude are Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco, Ricky Gervais, Paul Giamatti, Albert Brooks and Bud Cort.

Mackenzie Foy stars as the Little Girl, whose life is planned out literally to the hour by her misguided if well meaning mom (McAdams). While typically studying one night, the girl gets a mysterious note from the old bearded guy across the way. He seems like an oddball, but after some uninspired resistance, they become fast friends. He introduces her to a magical world that makes her forget about all that preparation-for-adulthood stuff.

Directed by Kung Fu Panda helmer Mark Osborne, The Little Prince is gorgeous to look at — switching from modern-day colorburst animation to a classic-looking Gallic style. Irena Brignull & Bob Persichetti penned the screenplay based on Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s timeless novella. The film premiered at Cannes, and Paramount opens it March 18. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think. But before you do, drink in this wonderful exchange: “I’m not so sure I want to grow up anymore,” the Little Girl says, to which the Aviator replies, “Growing up is not the problem — forgetting is.”
