Barry Rothbart Collars ‘Downward Dog’ Role; Anna Diop Joins ‘Greenleaf’

Barry Rothbart has joined the cast of ABC comedy pilot Downward Dogbased on the web series produced by Animal Media Group and creators/writers Samm Hodges and Michael Killen. It centers on Nan (Allison Tolman), a disorganized, unapologetic woman, and her dog (voiced by Hodges). Lucas Neff also stars. Rothbart will play Kevin, but no characters details are available. Repped by ICM and 3Arts, the actor-comedian’s credits include The Wolf of Wall Street and Comedy Central’s stand-up series The Half Hour. He next appears in the indie comedy Dean from writer-director Demetri Martin.

Anna Diop has landed a role in Greenleaf, the OWN original drama starring Keith David and Lynn Whitfield. It is set in the unscrupulous world of the powerful Greenleaf family and their sprawling megachurch, where scandalous secrets and lies are as numerous as the faithful. Diop will recur as Isabel, a teacher who is nervous, insecure, devout and engaged to Greenleaf Estate’s manager, Noah Kendall. Oprah Winfrey also will appear on the show. Diop was a regular on CW’s The Messengers, recurs on ABC’s Quantico and next appears in the 2016 feature Something About Her. She is repped by Abrams Artists Agency.
