Tyra Banks “Scaling Back” On ‘FABLife’

Just two months after debuting her syndicated daytime talk show FABLife, Tyra Banks announced she’s “scaling back.” She’ll be on the show 2-3 times a week through the end of the year, and then on occasional shows through the remainder of the season. No word about what happens after that but….

“This is a very difficult decision, but necessary,” she said in a terse, vague statement this morning, which suggests all was not perfect happiness. No other explanation, though Banks was sure to give her new cosmetics line a plug, humblebragging she would be devoting more time “to my new, growing cosmetics company, TYRA Beauty, which is expanding faster than anticipated.”

She also said she still is developing Life-Size 2 for the Disney Channel, and included another big plug, for her upcoming guest gig on  ABC’s black-ish.

News comes as most recent ratings on the show (for the week of November 2) show it matching its best weekly ratings in households (0.8) and setting a new high in total viewers (1.01M viewers), while holding even among women 18-49 (0.3) and women 25-54 (0.4).

This past August during a TCA Q&A, Banks waxed enthusiastic about returning to the daytime talk-show grind, saying she’d been courted by ABC over the years, but what made the difference for her was ABC Daytime and syndicated programming EVP Lisa Hackner who joined at the end of 2013. Banks worked with Hackner when she was at Telepictures overseeing Tyra.

“She pulled me back,” exclaimed Banks. Banks got EP title, her work on FABlife was more like having “a family and less stress” than her previous talk show.

When Banks last left the talk-show circuit in 2009, after doing Tyra and America’s Top Model at the time, “I was probably at my most lucrative and most unhappy,” Banks said at TCA, adding, “when Tyra ended, I said, ‘I’m done with talk. I’ll go to business school and work on taking America’s Top Model internationally’.”
