His follow-up It Follows, which he wrote, directed and produced, was one of the best reviewed horror films in recent years following its premiere at Cannes last year. The film, about a young woman followed by an unknown supernatural force after getting involved in a sexual encounter, was nominated for the Critics’ Week Grand Prize. Radius-TWC released it domestically, where it became the most successful film in the boutique label’s history, grossing nearly $15 million.
Mitchell is also active in the television space, writing an original pilot he sold to Universal Cable for an hourlong noir drama, Mr. Postman. He is managed by Jake Weiner at Benderspink and his attorney is David Fox from Myman, Greenspan.
Mitchell had previously been repped by WME but left when his agent, Mike Esola, joined UTA. He is currently developing Ella Walks The Beach, about a young woman who breaks up with her boyfriend and runs away, spending a night and a day traveling along an iconic California beach, chatting with strangers, playing music, having adventures, and testing the waters of “being single.”
