Cary Elwes & Mary Birdsong Join Lena Dunham’s HBO Comedy Pilot ‘Max’

Cary Elwes (The Art Of More) and Mary Birdsong (The Descendants) have been cast in recurring roles in HBO’s comedy pilot Maxwritten by Murray Miller and directed by Girls creator Lena Dunham

Max, described as a raucous comedy about the struggles of second-wave feminism in 1963, is centered on an ambitious magazine writer, Maxine Woodruff (Zoe Kazan), looking for liberation. Elwes plays Ken Reece, the editor of the magazine where Max works. Birdsong plays Sue, Max’s sole fellow female writer at the magazine.

Executive producing Max are a quartet of Girls executive producers: creator/star Dunham, Miller, Jenni Konner and Ilene Landress.

The Princess Bride star Elwes, author of the best-selling As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From The Making of The Princess Bride, is a series regular on Crackle’s The Art Of More, which premieres Thursday. He also will be seen in the upcoming films Being Charlie (where he reunited with Princess Bride director Rob Reiner), Sugar Mountain with Jason Momoa, and The Greens Are Gone with Catherine Keener. Elwes is repped by APA, LINK, and Felker Toczek.

Birdsong, recently seen in Freeheld, is repped by Innovative Artists and Abrams Entertainment.
