Pixar is making history, for Pixar that is, by releasing two movies in 2015 instead of the usual single animated winner it turns out year after year. In June, its highly acclaimed Inside Out immediately started generating not only Best Animated Feature buzz, but also even for Best Picture. That drumbeat continues as this week Pixar releases their second film of 2015, The Good Dinosaur.
Pixar president Jim Morris stopped by the Disney portion of our big awards-season event, The Contenders Presented By Deadline, that was held earlier this month in front of a packed audience of AMPAS and guild members at the DGA Theatre. He talks about the challenge of tackling a sophisticated concept for Inside Out and making it work for all audiences, the possibility of a Best Picture nomination, the genius of director Pete Docter, and the “coming of age” tale The Good Dinosaur making it “tough” to release two films the same year.
