Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect) is making her directorial debut on feature comedy The Pact, with Point Grey’s Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver producing alongside Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg and DMG Entertainment’s Chris Fenton. Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake and Chris Cowles will executive produce.
Along with brothers Brian and Jim Kehoe, Eben Russell and Hurwitz & Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar) wrote the script about three parents who scheme to foil their daughters’ virginity-losing prom-night pact. The project was announced today by Good Universe, Point Grey and Hurwitz & Schlossberg Productions. Josh Fagen will oversee for Point Grey and Spencer Wong for Good Universe.
Cannon wrote Universal’s hit singing franchise Pitch Perfect, which has grossed more than $400M in worldwide box office from the first two films. A third, with Elizabeth Banks to direct, is set for release in August 2017.
The Emmy-nominated Cannon has won three WGA Awards as well as a Peabody for her work on NBC’s 30 Rock, where she advanced from staff writer to supervising producer. Cannon co-produced Universal’s Baby Mama starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and worked as co-exec producer on Fox’s New Girl. She’s also acted in 30 Rock, New Girl and the upcoming How To Be Single.
Dan Freedman, SVP Business and Legal Affairs at Good Universe, negotiated the deals on behalf of the producers. Cannon is repped by WME and Ken Richman at Hansen, Jacobson. Russell is also repped by WME.
