Warner Bros Moves Todd Phillips’ ‘Arms & The Dudes’ To Summer, Will Open ‘The House’ In June 2017

Hours after it announced a new date for Me Before You, Warner Bros has unveiled more schedule changes. Todd Phillips’ action comedy Arms & The Dudes moves from March 11 to August 19; the Will Ferrell-Amy Poehler New Line comedy The House is now scheduled to bow on June 2, 2017; and the sequel Project XX has been taken off the schedule.

Jonah Hill and Miles Teller star in Arms & The Dudes as two young guys who win a $300 warner_bros_logo-2__130321233618million contract from the Pentagon to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan. Given the success of such R-rated August shoot-’em-up comedies aimed at young guys, read Tropic Thunder ($110.5M) and Pineapple Express ($87.3M), it’s a prime launch pad for Arms & The Dudes, hence the Warners move. There’s really nothing for Arms to sweat against on that date — just Focus Features’ animated title Kubo And The Two Strings. But there’s an avalanche of titles the weekend before, August 12-14: Paramount’s Ben-Hur, Disney’s Pete’s Dragon, Sony’s Sausage Party, Lionsgate’s The Shack and Universal’s Spectral.

Project XThe House follows a guy who allows his friends to start a casino in his basement after he and his wife burn through their daughter’s college fund. It’s set to face off against Sony’s Barbie. As for Project XX — the sequel to the 2012 rave film Project X that had been dated for August 19 — I’m told that the project hasn’t even jelled, meaning there’s no attachments or a director yet. The first installment was one of the most pirated titles in 2012, being downloaded close to 9M times. Project X made $102.7M at the worldwide box office.
