Lionsgate Developing TV Series With ‘Twlight’ Writer Stephenie Meyer For Hulu

BREAKING: Lionsgate is developing a new, one-hour series with Twilight novelist Stephenie Meyer titled The Rook that will play on Hulu and on an unnamed, leading British broadcaster, it was revealed today during the studio’s morning call with analysts. The move deepens the relationship between the studio and Meyer, whose Twilight series has been one of the most successful franchises the industry has ever seen with five movies that collectively made over $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office for the studio. The Rook is based on the novel by Daniel O’Malley who has a sequel coming out next year with the second in the series called Stiletto.

Meyer, who will executive produce The Rook, had taken the project to Lionsgate earlier this year. The Rook is based on O’Malley’s genre novel which introduces a strong female protagonist named Myfanwy Thomas with extraordinary powers who is employed by a mysterious British government agency responsible for defending the UK from supernatural threats. (Meyer is repped by UTA and O’Malley by Mollie Glick at Foundry Literary + Media).

This follows Hulu picking up the long-form comedy series Video Game High School with RocketJump Studios and Lionsgate starring YouTube sensation Freddie Wong.

Hulu also picked up Lionsgate TV’s original series Casual for a second season with a 13-episode order two weeks ago.
