Amy Pascal Lands Pitch For ‘Athena’ Movie From Michael Diliberti

EXCLUSIVE: Amy Pascal has just acquired Michael Diliberti’s pitch Athena, about a troubled young woman who is recruited by a covert agency and learns she is the descendant of the fabled goddess of wisdom and war. We’re hearing the deal was for mid-six against seven figures. It’s the latest pickup for Pascal, who is producing this at her new Sony-based Pascal Pictures along with Rachel O’Connor. Bryan Haas will also serve as producer.

That one is a franchise play that reimagines characters from the Old West as modern-day thieves in a contemporary Los Angeles setting. He is in the midst of writing the screenplay for the studio with James Vanderbilt producing. He also wrote the 2011 pic 30 Minutes Or Less starring Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari and directed by Ruben Fleischer.

Pascal is plenty busy, having just finished production on Paul Feig’s female-driven Ghostbusters with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Next up: the reboot of the Spider-Man franchise with Marvel’s Kevin Feige co-producing, Jon Watts directing and Tom Holland as Peter Parker.

Diliberti is repped by WME, Pulse Films and Morris Yorn.
