Gemma Burgess Dramedy ‘True Love’ Set At ABC With Anne Fletcher Directing

ABC has put in development True Love, an hourlong romantic dramedy from Brooklyn Girls author Gemma BurgessThe Proposal helmer Anne Fletcher and Fabrik Entertainment.

The anthology project from ABC Studios is very loosely inspired by classic fairy tales and subverted with a provocative and authentic post-feminist twist that believes you can stand on your own and still want to be swept off your feet. Fletcher is attached to direct the potential pilot and will serve as executive producer alongside Fabrik Entertainment’s Kristen Campo, Henrik Bastian and Mikkel Bondesen (Bosch, The Killing, Burn Notice). Burgess will serve as co-executive producer. ABC Studios is the studio.

Burgess’ popular Brooklyn Girls book series, about five twentysomething women and the humor, heartbreak and drama that bring them together, was launched in 2012. The third book, The Wild One, will be published on November 10 by St. Martin’s Press. Burgess also is the author of The Dating Detox and A Girl Like You (HarperCollins UK). She is penning the movie Undergrads for New Regency and Locomotive and recently rewrote Lovestruck for Maven Pictures and Pretty Matches for HBO.

Burgess is repped by APA and attorney Lucy Popkin. Fletcher is repped by UTA and attorney David Weber. Fabrik is with WME.
