Jonah Hauer-King Joins WWII Drama ‘Ashes In The Snow’ Opposite Bel Powley

EXCLUSIVE: Jonah Hauer-King has come aboard the World War II drama Ashes In The Snow opposite rising star Bel Powley. King will play the romantic lead in the film alongside Powley, breakout star of Sundance hit Diary Of A Teenage Girl. The European co-production is fully financed and scheduled to begin filming in Lithuania early next year.

The film is based on Ruta Sepetys’ New York Times bestseller Between Shades Of Gray. Ben York Jones (Like Crazy) wrote the screenplay. Marius Markevicius (The Other Dream Team) directs and will produce alongside exec producer Jonathan Schwartz, and producers Chris Coen and Zilvinas Naujokas.

Hauer-King also stars in the upcoming The Last Photograph, directed by and starring Danny Huston. Powley recently wrapped production on Christopher Smith’s psychological thriller Detour with Tye Sheridan. Powley is also attached to star opposite Elle Fanning and Douglas Booth in A Storm In The Stars with Haifaa Al-Mansour directing.

The book tells the coming-of-age story of 16-year-old Lina Vilkas who is deported to Siberia amidst Stalin’s reign of terror in the Baltic region during WWII. Lina, an aspiring artist, secretly documents her harrowing journey with her artwork, hoping that her drawings may reconnect her with her father from whom the family has been forcefully separated. The book is a Carnegie Medal nominee, and has been placed on more than 20 state high school reading lists throughout the country.

Hauer-King is repped by CAA and United Agents. Powley is repped by UTA, Brantley Brown at Schacter/Brown and Andrew Braidford at the BWH Agency.
