‘The Nutcracker’ Movie & Polyamory Dramedy Produced By Adam Shankman In Works At NBC

Director-producer Adam Shankman is tapping into his background as a dancer and choreographer with The Nutcracker, a two-shankmanhour television movie based on the classic ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It is one of two projects Shakman and Jennifer Gibgot’s Offspring Entertainment has in the works at NBC, along with Love, Sex And Neighbors, a dramedy from writer Gail Gilchriest (Dallas). Both projects are set at Warner Bros. TV, where Offspring is under an overall deal, with Shankman and his sister Gibgot executive producing.

kondostraviswallSo You Think You Can Dance‘s Travis Wall will serve as choreographer on the movie and will co-executive produce alongside longtime UCLA gymnastics head coach Valorie Kondos Field, a professionally trained ballet dancer, and Graff.

NBC already has a live musical holiday franchise. In The Nutcracker — originally based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story — the network is likely eyeing another potential holiday special.
