Fox Developing ‘House Sitter’ Comedy From Jake Johnson & Max Winkler

Fox has in the works House Sitter, a single-camera comedy inspired by real events, from 20th Century Fox TV and Jake Johnson and Max Winkler’s studio-based Walcott Co. Written/co-executive produced by Matt Bass and Teddy Bressman, the project centers on Beans, a house sitter who lives life according to his own set of rules; he turns your day-to-day existence into his vacation, your mundane into his adventure, and your bathrobe into his… bathrobe.

farrell_brian_211House Sitter was inspired by the real life adventures of Johnson’s long-time friend Brian (Captain Beans) Farrell, who will work with Bass and Bressman on developing the story and will serve as consultant on the project. Farrell, an actor-comedian, has built a side career as a professional house sitter, spending up to three weeks a month housesitting for his Hollywood friends while they are out of town.

Farrell and Johnson, who had attended high school together in Chicago, reconnected in 2003 at a friend’s wedding. At the time, Ferrell was living in Los Angeles and Johnson in Chicago. Ferrell was looking for a roommate and invited Johnson to come out and take the extra room in his apartment with the promise to help him get a job at the casino he was working for. After a brief deliberation, Johnson took the offer and lived with Ferrell for a year as he was making his way in showbiz. Johnson also used some of Farrell’s house-sitting antics as inspiration for the 2015 feature Digging For Fire, which the New Girl actor co-wrote, produced by and starred in.

Matt and Teddy1Johnson and Winkler will executive produce House Sitter with Funny or Die’s Jason Carden, who recently joined Walcott as an executive. Walcott also has Crossover, a family comedy inspired by the life of former NBA all-star Baron Davis, set up at Fox and 20th TV. Johnson is repped by UTA, 3 Arts and Jackoway Tyerman; Winkler is with CAA, Management 360 and Jackoway Tyerman.

Bass & Bressman have The Politician set up at Sony with Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg and Mark Gordon producing, Michael Dowse attached to direct and Vince Vaughn attached to star. They are also writing Ghostcop for Sony, with Circle of Confusion producing. Bass & Bressman are repped by CAA and Circle of Confusion; additionally, Bass is with Felzer Toczek and Bressman is with Jackoway Tyerman. Farrell is repped by Circle of Confusion and attorney Mike Eisner.

This is the second comedy project titled House Sitter at the broadcast networks this season. The other is for ABC with Gail Berman, Michael Bolton and Broken Road Prods.
