‘Walking Dead’ EP On Tonight’s Cliffhanger, [Spoiler] Coming Back

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains details of tonight’s episode of The Walking Dead.

The brutal entrails eating scene of tonight’s episode of the zombie apocalypse seemed to signal the end of one of the AMC show’s long standing characters – or did it?

As social media exploded, The Walking Dead showrunner says all is not quite as it seems and fans haven’t seen the last of one of the original survivors.

“Dear fans of The Walking Dead, this is a hard story to tell and when we were planning to tell, we knew our friends at the Talking Dead would be talking to you about it, and knowing you’d all be talking, and feeling and commiserating, “I knew we should say something about it lest our silence say something we didn’t mean to say or not say,” said EP Scott M. Gimple in a message on the TWD aftershow tonight. What the showrunner is referring to is what appears to be the gruesome death by zombie feeding frenzy of Glenn Rhee near the end of tonight’s “Thank You” episode.

“So I’ll say this – In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts of Glenn again, either in flashback or in the current story to help complete the story,” Gimple added in a message read by TD host Chris Hardwick on the Steven Yeun-portrayed character.

The apparent death/not death took place when Yeun’s Rhee and the Michael Traynor’s Nicholas were trapped on top of a dumpster surrounded by Walkers. Already having a lapse with the terrible reality of the world as it has become throughout tonight’s episode, Nicholas shot himself in the head after saying “thank you” to Glenn. Both of them fall off the dumpster and into the mass of Walkers, who quickly seem to be feasting on the guts of Glenn – or was it Nicholas’ body on top of Glenn?

What we do know for sure is that the Glenn character does suffer a very harsh death in the Robert Kirkman comics that the AMC series is based on – and has often deviated from. However, to that point, especially on a show that has seen many major characters die, the TWD Sword of Damocles has seemed to hang over Yeun’s Glenn for the past season. With his making it alive past the Season 5 finale, many fans reckoned Glenn’s days were numbered in Season 6. If the character is indeed dead, that would only leave Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier and Chandler Riggs as Rick’s son Carl from the original group that started TWD.

Then again, adding strength to Gimple’s comments tonight, Yeun has been filming on the second part of the current sixth season – a season that is still in production in Georgia. As for Yeun himself, all the actor had to say was this on Twitter earlier today about the death of Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders from cancer:
