Johnny Depp, Edgar Wright Talking Neil Gaiman’s ‘Fortunately, The Milk’ With Fox

Johnny Depp and Edgar wright want into the time travel and grocery shopping business, and are early negotiations with Fox to bring Fortunately, the Milk to movie screens, with Wright directing and Depp starring and producing. Based on the children’s book by Sandman, Stardust, and American Gods creator Neil Gaiman that was released in September of 2014, the book is a whimsical tale of a father who leaves one morning to buy milk and returns home with fantastic stories about his trip for his son, who narrates the story.

The script would be written by Bret Mackenzie of the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords. Along with Depp, Lego Movie co-producers Animal Logic Entertainment and Animal Logic’s Zareh Nalbandian will produce the film, intended as a hybrid of live action and animation.

Depp was most recently seen in Black Mass, about the notorious Boston gangster “Whitey” Bulger. He’s repped by UTA. Wright’s next film is Baby Driver, a heist movie starring Ansel Elgort currently in pre-production. He’s repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, Nelson Davis, and Independent Talent Group in the UK. Mackenzie is repped by UTA and Morris Yorn, and Gaiman by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham.
