‘Limitless’ Receives Full-Season Order From CBS, ‘Code Black’ Gets 6 Scripts

The three strongest new dramas this season now all have received full-season orders, with CBSLimitless joining NBC’s Blindspot and ABC’s Quantico. CBS just gave its first Back 9 order for the season to the series follow-up to the movie starring Bradley Cooper.

Meanwhile, new CBS medical drama Code Black has received an order for six backup scripts. No decision yet on the network’s new comedy Life In Pieces. Of the three, only Limitless is fully owned by CBS.

“We’re excited how Limitless continues to evolve creatively each week and stand out with its unique style of storytelling,” said Glenn Geller, President of CBS Entertainment. “It’s off to a strong start in a highly competitive environment.”

Based on the 2011 feature, Limitless is this season’s No. 2 new series among total viewers with an average of 11.43 million. In adults 18-49, it is averaging a 2.4, up 9% from last year’s time period. The freshman drama has won its Tuesday 10 PM time period in viewers every week since its September 22 premiere. Also, it’s one of CBS’ top series in multiplatform viewing, including a series premiere that saw its audience increase 79% and its adults 18-49 rating jump, up 132% from its Live+Same Day average.

Meanwhile, Code Black, toplined by Marcia Gay Harden, has been a modest performer, but it appears to have stabilized after the initial post-premiere slump, logging a 1.2 in 18-49 (L+SD) for the past two Wednesdays.

Limitless stars Jake McDorman, Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Hill Harper. Craig Sweeny, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Heather Kadin, Marc Webb, Bradley Cooper, Todd Phillips, Ryan Kavanaugh, Tucker Tooley and Tom Forman are executive producers for CBS Television Studios in association with K/O Paper Products and Relativity Television.

It’s been a strong fall for new drama series with four dramas receiving full-season orders to date, Blindspot, Limitless, Quantico (Back 7 episodes — originally 6, later upped to 7 ) and Fox’s Rosewood vs. only one comedy series, ABC’s Dr. Ken.
