‘All Of Me’ TV Series Remake In Works At NBC

EXCLUSIVE: All Of Me, Carl Reiner’s 1984 body-swapping feature comedy that starred Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin, is heading to television. NBC is developing an All Of Me half-hour comedy series, loosely based on the movie, with My Boys creator Betsy Thomas set to write and serve as executive producer/showrunner. Universal Television, whose sibling Universal Pictures distributed the movie, is the studio.

All Of Me starred Martin as attorney Roger Cobb hired by dying eccentric millionairess Edwina Cutwater (Tomlin) to rework her will, making a beautiful young woman her soul beneficiary as Edwina arranges for a mystic to transfer her soul into the young woman’s body. The transfer goes awry, and Roger ends up having to share his body with Edwina’s soul. (you can watch a trailer below)

I hear the NBC adaptation would be an anthology series, with a different person jumping into the protagonist’s body every week as he tries to help solve the problems that are holding them back.

Thomas is executive producing with Dimitri Logothetis as well as Todd Garner and Jeremy Stein of Broken Road Productions. Martin has no formal involvement but I hear talks are underway about him possibly coming onboard in some producing capacity. Garner has a long-standing relationship with Martin, going back to the Martin-starring Father Of The Bride movies, on which Garner worked as a studio executive.

The 1984 All Of Me feature, written by Phil Alden Robinson and Henry Olek based on the book Me Two by Edwin Davis, was well received, especially Martin and Tomlin’s performances. There had been multiple attempts to mount a feature remake. New Line developed a take that would have starred Queen Latifah. Most recently, DreamWorks worked on a version written by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein and produced by John Davis and Logothetis, who holds the rights.

Thomas is repped by WME. The All Of Me rights were repped by Paradigm, Peter Meyer Management and Gregg Gellman.

All Of Me is the latest movie remake in the works this TV development season. NBC gave a series order to Taken and also is developing new takes on Cruel Intentions and In The Line Of Fire. Fox has a Lethal Weapon, Think Like A Man and Behind Enemy Lines series in the works, ABC is rebooting My Big Friend’s Wedding, CBS is developing Training Day, and the CW has The Notebook.
