STX Pushes ‘Free State Of Jones’ To Summer 2016, Dates ‘The Space Between Us’

STX has pushed the release date of Gary Ross’ epic period action drama The Free State Of Jones by two months, from March 11 to May 13, and it has dated The Space Between Us. Both pictures are being dropped into the summer.

Free State Of Jones, also written by Ross, stars Matthew McConaughey and is set during the Civil War. It follows defiant Southern farmer Newt Knight and his armed rebellion against the Confederacy.

stxScheduled on the same date in May is Oliver Stone’s Snowden from Open Road, the wide release of Paramount’s Friday The 13th and the limited release of Fox Searchlight’s A Bigger Splash, which stars Ralph Fiennes and Dakota Johnson.

The Space Between Us, previously undated, has just been slotted for release on July 29. The intergalatic love story from director Peter Chelsom stars Gary Oldman, Asa Butterfield, Carla Gugino and Britt Robertson (who stole the screen away from George Clooney in Tomorrowland). This one is now on the same date as the next Bourne franchise installment from Universal Pictures.

The film is a star-crossed love story about two teens. One is the first human born on Mars and the other is a a girl living in Colorado. In a race across the universe and against time, Gardner must find his love and win her heart while also finding the man who can unravel the boy’s unusual history.
