EXCLUSIVE: Zosia Mamet (Girls) and Deirdre O’Connell (The Affair) have been set to star in The Boy Downstairs, a comedy from Cliffbrook Films. The pic, which kicked off principal photography this week in New York, is written and being directed by Sophie Brooks. Mamet stars as a woman who moves back to New York City after a failed experiment of life in Europe and inadvertently moves into her ex-boyfriend’s apartment building, quickly reopening old wounds. Matthew Shear and Diana Irvine also star.

Cliffbrook is producing with Motion Picture Capital, which is also fully financing. Cliffbrook’s David Brooks and Dan Clifton are producing with MPC’s Leon Clarance (Sense8). Paul Brooks (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Pitch Perfect movies) is executive producing.

David Brooks most recently directed the IFC Films thriller ATM, which Clifton and Clarance also exec produced, and Brooks and Clifton together produced the voyeuristic horror pic The Den. In addition to Netflix’s Wachowski series Sense8, MPC’s slate includes Xavier Gens’ Crucifixion now shooting in Romania, the Aaron Paul-starrer Come And Find Me in post and The Titan starring Sam Worthington and Ruth Wilson.
