Popular ‘Almost, Maine’ Will Morph From Stage To Page, Reversing Trend

EXCLUSIVE: In a deal with Macmillan imprint Feiwel And Friends, actor and writer John Cariani will reverse the usual traffic flow by recasting his popular dramedy Almost, Maine into a YA novel. F&F publishes new fiction and nonfiction aimed at the 16-and-under set.

First produced by the Portland (ME) Stage Company in 2004, Almost, Maine was later mounted off-Broadway in 2006 at the Daryl Roth Theatre. Its nine vignettes explore love and loss in the remote, fictional town of of the title. Since the original starting, it’s become one of the most-produced plays on the school circuit.

Currently co-starring on Broadway in the musical comedy Something Rotten!, Cariani’s best known for his recurring role as Julian Beck on Law & Order. Prior to Something Rotten!, he unnamedwas nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the 2004 Broadway revival of Fiddler On The Roof.

The book deal was brokered by Steve Ross at Abrams Artists Agency. Cariani is represented by Abrams and Forward Entertainment.
