‘Hail, Caesar!’ Trailer: Coen Brothers’ Latest Looks Like Best-Of Reel (In A Good Way)

The first look at Universal PicturesHail, Caesar! has dropped, and it has all the hallmarks of a killer Joel Coen and Ethan Coen pic. Based on the trailer, this one seems to be picking from the best of the brothers’ vault: a dash of the period Hollywood feel that could make it a sequel to Barton Fink, a kidnapping mystery like the one that tied the room together in The Big Lebowski (and less serious a crime than, say, No Country For Old Men or Fargo), and of course lines uttered by a embarrassment-of-riches cast (many Coen alums) including Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, and Frances McDormand.

Brolin plays a studio fixer in Hollywood’s Golden Age who has lots of problems to solve over a single day — not the least of which is the kidnapping of his studio’s biggest star, played by Clooney in a kind of Everett from O Brother, Where Art Thou? kind of way, at least the way the trailer plays it.

The Coens produced this under their Mike Zoss Productions banner alongside Working Title Films’ Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan. The comedy has a February 5 release date.
