Felicity Huffman To Produce & Possibly Star In ABC Fashion Biz Comedic Drama

ABC given a put pilot commitment to House Of Moore, a darkly comedic one-hour project set in the fashion world, which is executive produced by Felicity Huffman. The project, from creators Daniel and Ben Barnz, ABC Studios and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, is designed as a starring vehicle for American Crime leading lady Huffman.

Written and to be directed by Daniel Barnz, House Of Moore is said to be similar in tone to The Devil Wears Prada and to explore plus-size fashion. It centers on the sexy, twisted lives of an iconic fashion family, looking at our beauty-obsessed culture through a darkly comedic lens.

Huffman remains fully committed to John Ridley’s anthology series American Crime. If House Of Moore goes to series and American Crime is renewed for a third season, Huffman will topline Moore only if she could also do American Crime. That is not unconceivable as American Crime is done as a limited series, producing around 10 episodes a year. Additionally, both House Of Moore and American Crime are on the same network, ABC, and hail from the same studio, ABC Studios, making coordination easier.

Huffman and Kaplan executive produce. Daniel Barnz and business partner/husband Ben Barnz, who together brought the idea to Kaplan and Huffman, also executive produce through their We’re Not Brothers Productions banner.

“We’re incredibly grateful to have this opportunity to work with ABC, Aaron and Felicity,” said Daniel Barnz. “Ben and I are committed to telling stories of outsiders, and this show’s message about learning to love yourself as you are is especially meaningful to us.”

kapitalThis is the Barnzes’ third collaboration with Huffman and first in television. Previously, Daniel directed and Ben produced two feature films co-starring the Oscar-nominated actress: Phoebe In Wonderland and last year’s Cake. Daniel also recently was tapped to write and direct Valentina, a drama based on a telenovela for ABC Family, which he also executive produces with Ben and Kaplan. At ABC, WME-repped Daniel Barnz directed dramedy pilot Mix, about a family in the restaurant business, this past season.

ABC has been looking for a family drama set in the fashion industry. Three years ago, the network ordered one such project, Americana, to pilot which starred Anthony LaPaglia.

This marks Desperate Housewives alumna Huffman’s return to lighter fare. Her role on the ABC/ABC Studios dramedy earned her two Emmy nominations and a win in 2005. Huffman landed a third Emmy nom this year for American Crime. She is repped by CAA.

House Of Moore joins three other Kapital Entertainment broadcast projects with put pilot commitments: single-camera comedy Sugarland at Fox, multi-camera comedy Hello Again at CBS, and drama Monstropolis at ABC.
