Edie Falco Set For Biopic ‘Megan Leavey’
EXCLUSIVE: Edie Falco is set to co-star opposite Kate Mara (The Martian, Fantastic Four) in the indie biopic Megan Leavey for director Gabriela Cowperthwaite (Blackfish). The heart-tugging film is about real-life hero Megan Leavey and her military combat dog Rex who saved countless lives searching for roadside bombs during two tours in Iraq from 2004 to 2006. Falco will play the role of Jackie Leavey, Megan’s mother.
Megan Leavey and her bomb-sniffing dog formed a powerful bond and ultimately served two tours in Iraq together, completing more than 100 missions that saved countless lives. In 2006, the pair were wounded in an explosion and upon recovery, Leavey received a purple heart and was discharged from the Marines. Rex however was kept on active duty so Leavey spent the next 5 years anxiously waiting to adopt him. When Rex was scheduled instead to be euthanized, Leavey saved him and cared for Rex until his death.
If anyone knows how to tell the story it’s’ Cowperthwaite whose acclaimed documentary Blackfish that chronicled the plight of captive orcas, shined the light on the darkside of SeaWorld.
Jennifer Monroe, Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon of LD Entertainment will produce. Falco, who starred as everyone’s favorite mob wife Carmela Soprano and as Jackie Peyton in Showtime’s Nurse Jackie, is a four-time Emmy Award winner, having won for both series. Nurse Jackie recently completed its seventh and final season. Falco is repped by ICM Partners. Mara (House Of Cards) is repped by UTA and Mosaic.
