ABC Buys ‘Notorious’ Drama Based On Mark Geragos & Producer Wendy Walker From Josh Berman & The Firm As Put Pilot

Notorious, a drama from an eclectic group of executive producers that includes top attorneys in criminal and entertainment law, a popular blogger and a veteran CNN producer and executive, has landed at ABC in a competitive situation with a put pilot commitment.

Josh BermanhaganThe project, from Sony Pictures TV and Jeff Kwatinetz’s The Firm, was inspired by the relationship between famed criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos and long-time Larry King Live executive producer Wendy Walker. Written by Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman and blogger Allie Hagan (Suri’s Burn Book), Notorious is described as a provocative look at the interplay of criminal law and the media. It follows the professional and personal relationship between a charismatic attorney and a powerhouse television producer as they attempt to control the media, the justice system, and ultimately – each other.

Geragos and Walker executive produce with Berman, The Firm’s Kwatinetz and head of TV Josh Barry as well as entertainment attorney Kenny Meiselas whose client list has included Sean Combs, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, and Whitney Houston. Hagan co-executive produces.

This is the latest high-profile sale for former CSI executive producer Berman under his overall deal at Sony TV. He is writing/executive producing with Carol Mendelsohn a series based on the feature In The Line Of Fire, which is set up at NBC with a hefty penalty and is executive producing Sawyer & Huck, a modern-day take on the classic Mark Twain characters, which has a put pilot commitment at CBS. He is repped by CAA and attorneys Ken Richman and Jason Hendler.

This is the the latest broadcast sale for Kwatinetz recently re-launched The Firm. The company also has Talent, a drama with elements of music, at NBC from writer Shaun Cassidy, an Adam Milch project at Fox and a Kelly Masterson project at ABC. At The Firm’s predecessor, Prospect Park, Kwatinetz and Barry oversaw series Salem, Royal Pains and Wilfred.

Hagan, a former lobbyist in Washington DC, created the popular blog Suri’s Burn Book, a quirky take on celebrity kids. She is repped by CAA and Management 360.

Geragos, a regular guest on Good Morning America and contracted legal analyst for CNN, is Head of Geragos & Geragos. He has represented such high-profile clients as Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson and Chris Brown.

This marks a coming full circle of sorts for Walker who started her career at ABC as a secretary. She went on to become EVP at CNN and serve as Senior Executive Producer of  the news network’s then-flagship show Larry King Live.
